The Artificial Lawn Company team carried out our second-largest domestic project of 2020 in Detling, close to Maidstone in Kent. This busy family was looking for an artificial lawn suitable for dogs and plenty of football games.
Our Luxury Lawn was the grass chosen due to its strong C-shaped fibres, natural look, and excellent durability. The finished result completely transformed the space, optimising the look and usability of the garden.
The grass had become patchy due to high footfall and a dog wearing down the natural grass over hours of play and fun. They had tried all the usual seeding and re-turfing, but it struggled to grow with the high amount of light and all the conifers planted along the fencing. They also had builders doing lots of other work to the house which further increased the need for an artificial lawn instead or re-turfing the garden again.
The clients were very busy and looking for a low-maintenance solution to eradicate all the mowing and seeding required to keep their garden looking perfect. With an artificial lawn, there is little to no maintenance required, allowing more time for fun
To cope with the pets and children, we suggested our Luxury Lawn for its highly durable pile and reflex memory fibres. This also makes the garden low maintenance as all it now requires is the removal of any debris and the occasional brush.

This was a standard installation, except for a few variations. The client had their own builders doing the paving and other works at the property, so they removed the existing turf and added type one to the garden area for a very compact and solid base. Typically, we don’t do this as standard, but this is what the client wanted for an extra solid subbase
This is where we came in, compacting the type one layer and adding our special crushed granite aggregate mix on top. We then levelled the surface perfectly, following the contours of the garden, and compacted again. Next, we added a layer of heavy-duty woven geotextile weed membrane to stop any weed growth. This also prevented the shifting of the sub-base when adding the large rolls onto the lawn area. Our Luxury Lawn was installed to the whole area and secured around the perimeter with 6-inch galvanised fixing pins. Finally, all joints were seamed with artificial grass jointing tape and weatherproof polyurethane adhesive.
Due to the shape of the lawn around the house, the fitting of the grass was the most difficult part of this job as it was tricky to properly line up the various pieces. The installation was completed with special kiln dried ALC infill sand and spread with a mechanical rotary brush to lift the pile.
The finished result is an amazing family garden that will continue to make the neighbours jealous for many years to come! The client finished off the garden with a new wall against the conifers and a plum slate in the flower bed to complete the look.
